Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor
FEEL YOUR PULSE, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
What is blood pressure? Blood pressure is the pressure of the blood against the walls of arteries. Blood pressure is recorded in 2 ways:
the systolic pressure (as the heart contracts)
the diastolic pressure (as the heart relaxes between beats);
for example blood pressure below 120 over 80 mm Hg (millimetres of mercury) is considered optimal for adults
Blood pressure should be kept within the optimal range. High blood pressure is dangerous, because it makes the heart work too hard and can lead to serious cardiovascular diseases. In the industrialised countries one out of five adults suffers from high blood pressure. High blood pressure increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. Although high blood pressure usually cannot be cured, in most cases it can be prevented and controlled. Prevention is the first self-aid measure to avoid any risk. Measuring your blood pressure regularly and keep a list of your latest measurements, it can be useful for a diagnosis in case of emergency.
